KEYS TO LIVING FRUGALLY
Key 1 : You do NOT need to have everything you see to be happy in life. Figure out what you really need. What you do every day & what you need to do it. Then ask yourself whether each thing needs to be what it is.
Key 2: Know what things cost. Establish a baseline price & don't buy above it. I'm growing some of my own food: cayenne peppers, bell peppers, rosemary, mint, purslane, kale, Swiss chard, radishes, green onions, beets, lettuce, lemons, oranges, and more. There's something really gratifying about getting my hands into the dirt and watching it emerge. It tastes better and t's not loaded with chemicals. Key 3: DO NOT SHOP ON IMPULSE EVER! Shop for WHAT, WHERE and WHEN before you buy. Make a list of what you NEED and REALLY WANT. Use coupons whenever possible for everything possible. STACK store and manufacturer coupons when permitted. KNOW YOUR STORES' POLICIES! Shop sales. STOCK UP when you can get a better than usual deal. Combine Sales with Coupons. Ask for Case Discounts. Will they accept a competitor's coupons? Do not forget REBATES, Customer loyalty programs! Thrift Stores, Garage/Estate Sales. STOCK UP WHEN YOU FIND A REALLY GOOD PRICE ON REGULARLY USED ITEMS! If there's a good sale and coupons putting the items at or below my baseline price, I buy as many packs of TP (toilet paper) and Paper Towels as I can afford. I recently bought 30 cans of tuna at $0.39/can. SPEND MORE NOW -- SAVE OVER TIME. Sometimes by buying in bulk now, you get a more frugal purchase over a longer period of time. For instance, a gallon of olive oil might cost more NOW than your usual 17 oz bottle, but have a cheaper per ounce price. So you might want to do without something else this week and invest in these larger quantity bargains. This may sound very elementary to many, There are others who just don't have a clue. Others who need help organizing. I see it almost every day. SEE ALSO THE FOLLOWING PAGES: Baseline Prices I am not advocating not buying stuff. I'm advocating buying wisely to make money go as far as possible. No time to do the research for an item? Contact me. |
